the roots of a tree are 1/8 of the tree. they are 0.87 m. how tall is the tree?

my answer: 0.87 x 7 = 6.09 m

Why did you multiply 0.87 by 7?

1/8x = 0.87

0.125x = 0.87

x = 0.87 / 0.125

x = 6.96 m

I am not trying to fin out x. Its the multiplication sign: 0.87 multiplied by 7.

I changed 1/8 to its equivalent decimal, 0.125.

I used x for the height of the tree.

0.125 divided by 0.87 = 6.96
