Question
Simplifying Algebraic Expression
Using the Distributive Property & Combining Like Terms
Simplify:
-3 (2+3x) + x - 5
-3(2) + -3 (3x) + x - 5
Answer - 6 + -3(3x) + x - 5
Is the answer is correct??? I'm getting a bit confused and struggling a lot in this problem. Please help me!

Your answer isn't simplified.
-3 (2+3x) + x - 5
-6 - 9x + x - 5
-8x - 11
-3 (2+3x) + x - 5
-6 - 9x + x - 5
-8x - 11
This is wrong. You were suppose to use the distributive property. Here, let me show you:
-3(2+3x)+x-5
= -6+-9x+ x-5
Then, you combine like-terms:
-6-5= -11
and then -9x+x= -8x
Thus, your answer should be -11-8x.
Hope I helped you a little bit.

Thus, your answer should be -11-8x.
Hope I helped you a little bit.
No. You didn't simplify.
-3 (2 + 3x) + x - 5
-6 -9x + x -5
Combine like terms, then you are done.
-3 (2 + 3x) + x - 5
-6 -9x + x -5
Combine like terms, then you are done.
Joey is right you suppose to do the combine like terms at the end, but you simplify thought.
Thank You Ms. Sue.
