How can I word these sentences better?

1)Regardless of how misery changes a person, everyone always wants to get rid of it.

2)The characters of the novel demonstrate how misery drives people to do things they would not normally do.

3)While standing near the dead body of his creator, the fiend explains:

Is this citation correct?
After being rescued by Robert Walton, Victor reveals, “One of the phenomena which had peculiarly attracted my attention was the structure of the human frame, and, indeed, any animal endued with life. Whence, I often asked myself, did the principle of life proceed?” (48).

You should phrase the first sentence like this:
1. Regardless of how misery transforms a person, many people want to get rid of the feeling.
The second sentence is okay, although I would suggest changing things to committing actions that seem out of the ordinary.
The third sentence is okay and I believe the citation is correct but I'm not completely sure. Check a website and if your essay is in MLA format, you should click on that and go from there. Good luck!
