Ms. Kenny grew 3/5 as many zinnias as Mr. Hadam. If Ms. Kenny has 12 zinnias, how many zinnias do they have in all.

I calculated that they have 20 zinnias total. Am I correct.

Thanks

let the number that Hadam has be x

(3/5)x = 12
3x = 60
x = 20

So Hadam has 20, and Kenny has 12 , so together they have 32

To solve this problem, you need to find the number of zinnias that Mr. Hadam has.

First, you know that Ms. Kenny grew 3/5 as many zinnias as Mr. Hadam. This means that Ms. Kenny has 3/5 of the number of zinnias that Mr. Hadam has.

You also know that Ms. Kenny has 12 zinnias. So, let's represent the number of zinnias that Mr. Hadam has as "x".

Using the information given, you can set up a proportion:

(3/5)x = 12

To solve the proportion, you can cross-multiply:

3x = 5 * 12

3x = 60

Dividing both sides by 3 gives you:

x = 20

So, Mr. Hadam has 20 zinnias.

To find the total number of zinnias they have, you can simply add the number of zinnias they each have:

Ms. Kenny's zinnias + Mr. Hadam's zinnias = 12 + 20 = 32

Therefore, the correct answer is that they have a total of 32 zinnias.
