I'm having a lot of trouble with this writing prompt:

Discuss the reasons why the powers of the president expanded during the 20th century, compared to the 19th century and provide 3 examples of increased presidential powers.

Presidential powers expanded during the 20th century partly because the Constitution gave the President the title of Commander-in-Chief in times of war. During this time, the U.S. was involved in two world wars plus the Cold War. We also incorporated the word "war" in trying to solved domestic domestic problems -- War on Poverty, War on Drugs, etc.

I suggest you check your book to see what its author suggests for the reasons and the examples s/he has given for the expansion of Presidential powers. These sites may also help you.
