What role did the freedmen play in Reconstruction governments?

Answer - Before the war, African Americans had no voice in southern government. During Recontruction, they not only voted in large numbers, but they also ran for and were elected to public office in the South.

I think my answer was wrong because when I googled that question some answers said something about sharecropping or carpetbaggers....

The question said what "role" did the freedmen play in Reconstruction governments?

so im assuming they asking for what job or something...

heres my other answer - During reconstruction, many freedmen and poor whites went to work on the large plantations. These sharecroppers farmed the land, using seed, fertlizer, and tools provided by the planters.

is my answer is correct (please be honest)

Go back and focus on the original question. "What role did the freedmen play in Reconstruction <b><u>governments</b></u>.

Your first answer addresses that. Sharecroppers and plantations are about economics, not government.

Before the Civil War African Americans were slaves and couldn't vote, much less hold public office.
