Conductor "A" has a charge of +6 and conductor "B" has a charge of -8. If the 2 objects are brought together and then separated, what will be the chage on each object?

1 answer

Charge will flow from one conductor er until they are at the same electrical potential. If the two conductors are the same size and ide shape, such as equal radius spheres, then equipotential requires that they have the same charge. Since a net excess charge of -2 is available, there would be a charge of -1 on each one. That charge would remain as they are separated.

If the two conductrs are different in size, the results would be differen. Was your problem accompanied by a figure that showed the size and shape of the two conductors?
