Faridah had 2 1/2 kg of sugar. She used 1/8 kg for making cookies and 1 3/4 kg for making cakes. She used 1/2 of the remainder for making syrup. How much sugar had Faridah left?

after cookies and cakes
amount left = 2 1/2 - 1/8 - 1 3/4
= 5/2 - 1/8 - 7/4
(20 - 1 - 14)/8 = 5/8
1/2 of that is 5/16
so she has 5/16 kg left
