Having trouble with a new concept we are learning. In the sentence below should the answer be their or its and why? Thanks.
The marching band picked up (their, its) new uniforms today.

Deciding whether a collective noun is singular or plural can be confusing.

In this sentence since the band picked up uniforms (plural), band must be plural. Therefore, the correct pronoun is "their."
