This story can be classified as a fable. A fable is a short story that typically features animals as characters and contains a moral lesson or message. In this case, the story teaches the lesson that sometimes what seems like captivity or restriction can actually bring safety and security.
To determine the genre of a story, you can look for certain elements. In the case of this story, it includes animals as characters (a dog and a wolf), a lesson or moral message (the importance of safety and security), and a narrative structure with a beginning, middle, and end.
