A baseball teams ace pitcher throws fast balls at a velocity of 160kmh, the balls are released at a height of 1.6m from the ground, given that the distance between pitcher and plate is 18.4m how far has the ball dropped when it passes over the plate?

First convert 160 km/h to 44.4 m/s.

Assuming that the initial velocity of the throw is horizontal (which may not be true in practice) the ball drops (1/2) g t^2, where t is the time of flight to home plate, 18.4/44.4 = 0.41 s.
