Grams and milligrams are units of weight. For example, a granola bar weighs about 20 grams. Since there are 1,000 mg in a gram, each bar weighs about 20,000 mg -- and each mg is about the size of a tiny crumb that you probably couldn't even see.

To get back to your problem -- of 75 mg. Obviously that's a very small amount and is usually only used in scientific measurements. If you divide 75 by 1000 on a calculator, you'll get .075. (If this were money, .075 would be 7 1/2 cents compared with $1.00.)

A faster way of dividing by 1000 is to move the decimal point three places to the right.
