I'm thinking... nonsense?

Or limerick?

I'm having trouble understanding the differences. They both seem the same as I research it.

It doesn't follow the pattern of a limerick. Limericks have five lines and an AABBA rhyme scheme.

The poem "Humpty Dumpty" is classified as a c. nonsense poem. To determine this, we can analyze the characteristics of the poem.

"Nonsense" poems are typically characterized by their absurdity, illogicality, and the use of nonsensical words or phrases. They often play with language and defy traditional rules of grammar and logic. "Humpty Dumpty" fits this description, as it tells the story of a character named Humpty Dumpty who has a great fall and cannot be put back together again, which is an absurd concept. The poem's language, with phrases like "All the king's horses and all the king's men," adds to its nonsensical nature.

In contrast, a "narrative" poem tells a story, often with a clear beginning, middle, and end. While "Humpty Dumpty" does have a story-like structure, it is not focused on conveying a coherent narrative but rather on creating a nonsensical and humorous atmosphere.

Examining the poem's characteristics and comparing them to the different types of poems helps us determine that "Humpty Dumpty" can be classified as a c. nonsense poem.
