    change it to improper fractions
45 1/4=(45*4+1)/4=181/4 check that
23 3/4= (23*4+3)/4=95/4 check that.
then you multiply
181*95/(4*4)=17195/16=1074 11/16 check that
    
45 1/4=(45*4+1)/4=181/4 check that
23 3/4= (23*4+3)/4=95/4 check that.
then you multiply
181*95/(4*4)=17195/16=1074 11/16 check that

    The easiest way to do this is to convert the fractions to decimals.
45 1/4 = 45.25
23 3/4 = 23.75
45.25 * 23.75 = 1,074.6875

You could also convert the fractions to improper fractions and multiply.
181/4 * 95/4 = 17,195/16 = 1074.6875
