a gun is fired from a distance of 1.2 km from a hill.the echo of the sound is heard after 7.1 seconds at the same place. Calculate the velocity of sound.

distance d= 1.2•2=2.4 km =2400 m.
t =7.1 s
v=d/t = 2400/7.1 =338 m/s
t =7.1 s
v=d/t = 2400/7.1 =338 m/s

Distance = 1.2 km
And we have to multiply distance with 2 because echo heard at same point so, d=2×1.2=2.4
In metre, 2400m, (2000m+400m= 2400m)
Then, velocity = d/t
= 2400/7.1
= 338.028169
