numerator -- x
denominator --- x+6
numerator decreased by 2 --- x-2
denominator increased by 4 --- x+10
(x-2)/(x+10) = 1/5
cross-multiply
5x - 10 = x+10
4x = 20
x=5
original fraction was 5/11
check:
new fraction:
(5-2)/(11+4)
= 3/15
= 1/5
