If I have a piece of wood that is 7 1/4 feet long and I cut off 4 feet 8 1/2 inches how much is remaining?
I think it's 2 feet 5 3/4 inches. Right?

I get 2 feet, 6 1/2 inches

7 1/4 feet = 7 feet, 3 in. = 6 feet, 15 in. = 6 ft 14 2/2 in
