Two towers are similar. The area of the larger tower is 400 pi ft^2 and the area of the smaller tower is 169 pi ft^2. What is the ratio of the heights of the towers?

similar? Normally, when we gauge similarity, we speak of distances. But the base areas are a square of distance, so

h1/h2=sqrt (A1/A2) so figure the square root of the ratio of areas, and you have it.
