Since vectors have magnitude and direction, a vector like -CB = +BC
so EA - CB + DB + AD
= EA + AD + DB + BC
= EC
notice I made then terminal point of a vector equal to the initial point of the next vector, so you are "just going" from E to A, then onto D, and then to B and finally from B to C.
So you have gone from E to C, or the vector EC
Do the second question the same way
so EA - CB + DB + AD
= EA + AD + DB + BC
= EC
