the volume of a cone is 48 pi cubic units. If its dimensions are reduced to one half their original length, what would its new volume be?

1 answer

v = 1/3 pi * r^2 * h

if dimensions are multiplied by 1/2, we get

1/3 * pi * (r/2)^2 * (h/2)
= 1/8 * 1/3 * pi * r^2 * h
= 1/8 v

or, 1/8 = (1/2)^3 the previous volume
just FYI, the area would be (1/2)^2 = 1/4 the previous area.
