if you are trying to solve for the variables subtract 2y to the other side so you then have X=-2y +8 for the equation and put it in for x in the top equation
5(-2y+8) -2y=4
-10y+40-2y=4
-12y=-36
y=3
so then put 3 in for the bottom equation
x+2(3)=8
x=2
5(-2y+8) -2y=4
-10y+40-2y=4
-12y=-36
y=3
so then put 3 in for the bottom equation
x+2(3)=8
x=2
