use brackets, they are needed here
(3 - √2)/(2 + √2)
multiply top and bottom by (2-√2)
(3 - √2)/(2 + √2) * (2-√2)/(2-√2)
= (6-5√2+2)/(4-2)
= (8-5√2)/2
