So he was looking at 12 slices
he ate one whole pie (6 slices) + 2 more slices from the second pie.
so he ate 8 slices
he ate one whole pie (6 slices) + 2 more slices from the second pie.
so he ate 8 slices

if each slice had 6 pieces the first step is to see how many pieces he had in total.
figure it out? he had 12 pieces. if he ate one whole pie which had a total of six pieces he ate half of his total so far 6/12 = 1/2
so for now put that number aside.
if he additionally ate 2/6 slices of the other pie adding onto the total of 2/12, now all that's left is addition.
add 6/12 + 2/12 and that's your answer . Now you can round if wanted or necessary.
