what is the use of human development index?

ranks its member countries according to three measures: adult literacy, life expectancy, and the per capita GDP.

i not really understand that definition

and i not know how effective it is in high lighting the differnces between rich and poor countries. well i think its quite effective because it be clear in representing percentage differences money and life expectancy i think.

adult literacy: how many adults can read
life expectancy: how long the average person lives
per capita GDP: the average wage of all of the people in a country

This index isn't perfect, but it gives a good idea about how countries rank in these important things.

Yes. The HDI gives an indication of the differences between countries.
