Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts in biological systems. They act most efficiently at temperatures between 36 degrees celsius and 40 degrees celsius. Why is this so?

That is the typical range of body temperature for humans, and many mammals. I suspect the evolutionary selection resulted in the development of enzymes optimized for that temperature range.
