An average song is 5,000 bytes (5B). ow many songs can an 4 gigabyte mp3 player store?
I'm not looking for an answer, but please explain how to solve this problem? I'm confused. There are many other problems like this on my homework and I don't know what to do.

giga means 10^9 a one with 9 zeros after it
5,000 = 5^10^5
so
we have
4 * 10^9 bytes on player
=========================
5 * 10^5 bytes per song
which is the same as
40 * 10^8 bytes on player
=========================
5 * 10^5 bytes per song
or
8 * 10^3 songs on a player
but 8*10^3 = 8,000
By the way K or kilo is the symbol for 1000 or 10^3
so 5,000 bytes is 5 KB, kilo bytes
5,000 = 5^10^5
