Sum and difference problems can be readily solved without algebra by the following:
bigger number = (sum+difference)/2
smaller number = (sum - difference)/2
Example, since there are more girls than boys, so
number of girls = (35+11)/2 = 23
number of boys = (35-11)/2 = 12
bigger number = (sum+difference)/2
smaller number = (sum - difference)/2
Example, since there are more girls than boys, so
number of girls = (35+11)/2 = 23
number of boys = (35-11)/2 = 12
