assuming base 3 throughout,
log(2x+8) + log(3x) = 2
log[(2x+8)(3x)] = 2
raise 3 to the power of each side
(2x+8)*3x = 9
6x^2 + 24x - 9 = 0
2x^2 + 8x - 3 = 0
yuck
x = [-8 +/- sqrt(88)]/4
= -2 +/- sqrt(22)/2
log(2x+8) + log(3x) = 2
