Although they could all help, Solar and Wind are the most promising. I suppose I'd choose solar, but that's pretty far fetched.

Solar power can be stored and used when the sun is down.

Hydroelectric power is very efficient in areas where you have fast-moving streams and dams.

You have to store the solar power in batteries. But like you said darkness and grey days are a problem. Hydroelectric? requires rivers. Bottom line: Not enough dams can be made to supply sufficient elec. Also drought causes shortages. The sun is the best bet.
