There are a couple of reviews/summaries of Schlink's book here:
http://www.amazon.com/Reader-Bernhard-Schlink/dp/0375408266/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200531710&sr=1-1
The only things I can see that they have in common are the theme of good vs. evil and the need for moral responsibility. Since I haven't read Schlink's book, though, I'm not really sure.
Use your imagination, and see what you come up with.
