Need help with proper technique for using TI-83 to calculate.

I don't have a TI , mine is an old SHARP.
But most work pretty well the same way.
On mine I would type:
30
x
2.7
y<sup>x</sup> , or some key that resembles a power
.2
± , to make it negative
=

to get 24.59509486
