If the fraction is a/b
(a+1)/(b+1) = 1/2
(a+8)/(b+8) = 2/3
2a+2 = b+1
(1): 2a - b = -1
3a+24 = 2b + 16
(2): 3a - 2b = -8
subtract 2x#1 from #2
3a - 2b = -8
4a - 2b = -2
-a = -6
a = 6
so, b = 13
Original fraction: 6/13
Check:
(6+1)/(13+1) = 7/14 = 1/2
(6+8)/(13+8) = 14/21 = 2/3
(a+1)/(b+1) = 1/2
(a+8)/(b+8) = 2/3
2a+2 = b+1
(1): 2a - b = -1
3a+24 = 2b + 16
(2): 3a - 2b = -8
subtract 2x#1 from #2
3a - 2b = -8
4a - 2b = -2
-a = -6
a = 6
so, b = 13
Original fraction: 6/13
Check:
(6+1)/(13+1) = 7/14 = 1/2
(6+8)/(13+8) = 14/21 = 2/3
