yes ms. sue you found it, that the poster
This poster shows a Canadian soldier and an innocent little Canadian girl. The purpose of the poster is to get men to enlist in the Canadian army. The little girl looks up to the soldier and expects him to defend her.

Here's some background about the Battle of Hong Kong.

"The Battle of Hong Kong took place during the Pacific campaign of World War II. It began on 8 December 1941 and ended on 25 December 1941 with Hong Kong, then a Crown colony, surrendering to the Empire of Japan."

Note: a Crown colony was a British possession. Canada declared war on Japan to help Britain.

I think the poster is effective because it appeals to everyone's need to help the innocent.
thank you ms. sue i understand very better like how you explain. thanks so much
You're very welcome, Mohammad.
