Discrimination means to treat a group of people unfairly. Before the Civil Rights movement, African-Americans in the South couldn't go to the same schools as whites. They couldn't use parks and swimming pools at same time as whites. They couldn't be hired for many jobs. They had to sit at the back of city buses.
