NaCl was used to rinse a condenser after distillation of 4-methylcyclohexene to remove unreacted phosphoric acid. Why is saturated NaCl used to rinse the glassware rather than water?

Was the stream of "waste" water allowed to drain into the freshly prepared 4-methylcyclohexene? Or were the rinsings dumped in the drain and/or otherwise disposed of.
