Simplify
-5 = 6 + 8x
Subtract 6 from both sides

Divide both sides by 8.
-11/8 = x



y = 5-2(3+4x)
0 = 5-2(3+4x)
-5 = -2(3+4x)
-5 = -6 - 8x
1 = -8x
-1/8 = x
