English is not my first language and someone just told me: 'my mom was asking about you', what does it mean and what people usually reply to that sort of statement?

Thanks

It just is a way to say your mom was wondering how the other person is doing. One answer might be this: "Oh, thanks. I'm doing fine!"
And the other person might also add, "How's your mom doing?"
oh ok thanks
You're welcome.
