y = cot^2x - csc^2x = cot^2x - (1+cot^2x) = -1
so, y' = 0

Or, if you want to work it out, use the chain rule:

y = cot^2x - csc^2x
y' = 2cotx(-csc^2x) - 2cscx(-cscx cotx)
= -2cotx csc^2x + 2cotx csc^2x
= 0
