John bought a shirt on sale for 25% off the original price and another 25 % off the discounted price. If the final price was $16, what was the price before the first discount? (Please i need to present it to our school. I don't know how to solve it. Can you post step by step?)

original price = p
price after first 24% discount = .75p
he second 25% discount reduces the already reduced price to .75*.75p = .5625p
So, if .5625p = 16,
p = 16/.5625 = $28.44
check:
25% off $28.44 = $21.33
25% off $21.33 = $16.00
price after first 24% discount = .75p
he second 25% discount reduces the already reduced price to .75*.75p = .5625p
So, if .5625p = 16,
p = 16/.5625 = $28.44
check:
25% off $28.44 = $21.33
25% off $21.33 = $16.00
