b. A sample is whom you ask, not what you conduct.

A representative sample should fairly accurately mirror the community as a whole. In other words, if 30% of the community is Hispanic, then 30% of those polled should be Hispanic. Asking the same question to "many people" doesn't indicate that they are a representative sample.
