You are on a boat heading out to sea. The boat is going 5m/s toward a buoy (the origin in your chosen frame of reference) that is 300 meters away. How long will it take to be 500 meters beyond the buoy?

d = 300 + 500 = 800m,

d = V*t,
t = d / V = 800 / 5 = 160s = 2.67 min.
