There are 36 buttons in a jar. There are 3 times as many red buttons as white. 1. how many white buttons are there? 2. how many red buttons are there? My answer is 6,am i right?

No. 6 isn't the answer to either question.
Let x = the number of white buttons.
x + 3x = 36
