Are you taking pre-algebra? If you are taking beginning algebra 7.8 is added to both sides to solve for f.
Your answer would be +7.8 instead of -7.8 on the other side of the equation.
When you have equations where you need to solve for a variable always add or subtract from one side. For example
if your equation is x+10-4x=14 first collect like terms. There is only one whole number in the equation so subtract that first. So now the equation is x+10-10-4x=-10+37. Now collect variables. There is a single x which is = to one. add the x to 4x. This will then be -3x. So now the equation is 10-10-3x= 37-10. 10-10 is 0. Now to solve for x divide both sides by three. 37-10 is 27. 27/3=7
If you are on another chapter that is talking about beginning equation let me know.
