how could I figure out which molecule has the stongest bond if I am given some such as HF AND HI.

Generally, the more the atoms are separated the weaker the bond. In the case of HF vs HI, the I atom is MUCH larger than the F atom, therefore, the HI bond is weaker than the HF bond. And that is reasonable, since bond strengths relies upon charge and distance. The closer things are together the harder it is to pull them apart.
