How did the CPR & other railroads serve to increase economic growth in BC?

All i can come up with is that they gathered tourists.

Tourists back in the 1800"s ?

The major impact was in the relatively easy transportation of major goods. The Rockies were a huge physical barrier, and the railroad made the passage through those massive mountains possible.
Remember cars and trucks, and thus any roads, were not yet in the picture.
