I think it is a very idiotic question. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principles_of_learning Tends to state that C is the answer. Personally, I don't even agree with that. A very hungry rat can learn to get food. So I disagree with Maslow on this, and personally think Maslow has led many students astray. To me a fundamental principle of motivation is that people seek to avoid pain, and secondaly, seek to experience personal growth. That is it, in a nutshell. As a manipulator of learning (ie, a teacher), one has to balance these two motivations in order to "teach" students.

When you have an instructor that teaches hierarchy in classifications which are based on subjectively evaluated worth, such as the most fundamental, the least important, the second best... I run from those instructors. In my experience, few of them have much to offer besides their opinions, and there are plenty of valuable teachers in the world if you seek them out.

Enjoy your search into learning and motivation (ie, readiness for learning) experiences, and have fun with it.

I'd say b is the least likely answer.

See how messed up the question is? Are you sure this isn't in relation to a specific person's ideas and asking what they think?

bobpursley, you need to read up on Mazlow's hierarchy of needs. Children's basic physiological needs must be met before they can focus on fulfilling the need to learn and grow.

The most fundamental principle behind learning is that children do what? Is it A. construct knowledge, B. learn through play, C. clean when their physical needs are satisfied, or D. learn through social interaction?

To determine the correct answer, we can break down each option and consider its relevance to the fundamental principle of learning.

A. Construct knowledge: While it is true that children construct knowledge as they learn, this option does not encompass the most fundamental principle behind learning. Constructing knowledge is a process that occurs during learning, but it does not address the core principle itself.

B. Learn through play: Play is indeed an essential component of children's learning. It allows them to explore and experiment, fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and social development. However, it is not the most fundamental principle behind learning.

C. Clean when their physical needs are satisfied: This option seems unrelated to the question of learning. It addresses the idea of meeting physical needs, which is important for overall well-being but does not directly relate to the principle behind learning.

D. Learn through social interaction: Social interaction plays a crucial role in a child's learning process. Through interactions with others, children develop communication skills, language abilities, empathy, and cognitive functions. Social interaction is indeed one of the most fundamental principles behind learning.

Therefore, the correct answer is D. Children learn through social interaction.
