how do you know that
(x-2x)/(x+1) is a hyperbola?

(x-2x)/(x+1)
=-x/(x+1)
= -1 + 1/(x+1)
substitute x'=x+1
= -1 + 1/x'
Hence a hyperbola shifted one unit downwards
