1 + 4 = 5
5 + 8 = 13
13 + 16 = 29

What pattern is formed by 4, 8, 16 ?

first you need to find the pattern. So subtract 29 from 13, 13 from 5, and 5 from 1. You then get 16,8,and 4. So the numbers are going up by 4. 16 +4 is 20. So you do 20+29=49 and so on and so forth.
