Hello. Please help me with articles:

"The opposition lost its seats in an/the(?)election last week."
"All (the?)electoral bodies in the country are controled by the President."

In the first sentence, either article is correct. "The" means a specific election that your reader knows about. "An" indicates an election that your reader is probably not familiar with.

Use of an article in the second sentence is optional. There is little difference in meaning.
