The automobile facilitated the idea of worshipping at the altar of materialism. The development of the automobile helped to change the American culture by allowing individuals another avenue to show wealth and treasure it, two critical elements of the New Era.

Have we not seen individuals buy expensive luxury or sports cars and live in housing that should be condemned?

People have been able to buy luxury cars as a way of showing wealth. When cars first became available, people drove to nearby towns where they could buy more goods than were available locally.

I haven't seen expensive cars in front of poor dwellings. But, undoubtedly, some people spend more on their cars than they can afford.
